Trae and I have developed a lovely routine of eating a late breakfast together in the restaurant connected to our apartment. Trae helps the kids get to school while I go for a walk through the park, and then we reconvene for a diverse buffet of salad, dumplings, fresh fruit, probiotic drinks, and fancy coffee. The best part of our visit is our server, Sean, who greets us every morning with a huge smile and a comment on how happy we are. I tried to explain that - of course we are happy because we have no responsibility, but he compliments and thanks us for our attitude anyway. Sean tells us about the holidays, his hiking adventures and his phone plan. It feels good for us to see a familiar face, and I think he enjoys practicing his English. Today, Sean told us that he is leaving his job at the restaurant to do his "other" job. It turns out, in addition to being a server, he is a psychologist, a teacher, an uber eats driver and...a magician. We brought him a small gift to say goodbye. He gave us his card and offered to meet up to give the kids a magic lesson. Then he waived us goodbye with a double hand wave. He plans to save up to visit the US and seemed serious when he said he would stop in Colorado to visit. -- Kim
