The kids made it to their first day of school. Their micro school, Acton Academy, is in a really cool open studio, and so far Poppy's class of 12 has done karaoke and a built a race car out of water bottles. Hopefully she will also learn math (fingers crossed).
Their commute takes 30 minutes by metro, one train change, and a walk through the park - they are nearly ready to go back and forth by themselves, barring oversleeping their metro stop (fingers crossed again).
To celebrate the first day, we finally made it to the famous Din Tai Fung, known for their delicious dumplings. We have a location less than 10 minutes walk from our place, and there is usually a long line outside, but tonight we went early with the babies and the older folks and got right in. A team of dumpling cooks rapidly prepare dumpling after dumpling dressed in all white as you enter - a culinary dance of sorts.
The pork dumplings, which come steaming hot, live up to their fame. You gently pick one up with chopsticks, set it in your soup spoon, take a tiny bite off the top to release the steam and then carefully dip it in a sauce of soy, rice vinegar, and ginger. Soup oozes around the meat center. Delicious.
The kids give it two hearts Taiwan style - Kim
